About Joel

Wichita therapists

Joel was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas and lives there with his wife and three daughters. He grew up going to a Presbyterian (Christian) church and served in ministry to youth and adults before earning a master’s degree in family therapy from Friends University in Wichita. Joel has practiced as a Marriage and Family Therapist in various practice settings since 2007, most recently in private practice in East Wichita.

As a family therapist, Joel provides therapy to individuals, couples and families from a systemic perspective, incorporating ideas from Bowen Family Therapy, Attachment Theory and somatic approaches to help people find healing. He also provides Spiritual Direction to seekers from all different backgrounds, helping them connect with their deepest selves, practice presence and find meaning.

Through various life experiences and interacting with people from many different backgrounds, Joel has worked to build a spirituality that is transferrable and translatable to many different contexts. That means deconstructing the faith tradition in which he was raised, and incorporating perspectives from many different sources – religious and non-religious.

Joel’s life’s work is to help people find healing utilizing their whole experience – including mental, emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of being – to connect with the deepest reality about the world and themselves. Find out more about therapy and Spiritual Direction below.
