Growing Old

Getting older is not about putting yourself together more. It is about being taken apart, piece by piece, until you are finally on your knees in death.
The pain is only yours. You cannot deposit it anywhere and no one can take it from you. You can only hope to have it transformed.
It is easy to get ahead of ourselves and God when we don’t believe that he will eventually speak.
Worry keeps us focused on our stuff, our plans, having things our way, and preserving everything that is OURS. To be drawn up into the Presence is to let go of all that. Sounds dangerous!
Blessed are those who hit rock bottom, when all the rest of us are comforted by our circumstances. What a gift to be able to realize our resources are limited, and we cannot lift ourselves from every situation.
